Cooking with Kids!
I am a big believer of getting kids in the kitchen! If you don’t teach them to cook, who’s going to? Then, before you know it, they are out on their own and eating out every night. Not good! I love teaching kids how to cook! I was invited to Hoover Elementary School in Neenah, Wisconsin to cook dinner with the students. What fun! When I asked for volunteers to come up and help, the hands went up and these kids were all in! Love that!
Most kids just say “no thanks” to salad. But, let me tell you they loved my Sunny Spinach Salad with mandarin oranges and a homemade orange vinaigrette. For the main course, you know me, I’m the queen of casseroles, so I did my Baked Ravioli Casserole They gave it the two thumbs up! And, for dessert, my Chocolate Mint Trifle with brownies, pudding, and chocolate mints was a huge hit! They helped make it all! And, they helped eat it too! Every last bit!
When kids are involved in helping make meals they get so excited about it! It’s a great way to get picky eaters to try more things! If they help make it, I bet they’ll eat it! I have pictures of both my kids in the kitchen cooking with me even before they could walk! We had a drawer in the kitchen filled with their own utensils. Kids aprons too! It worked! Now, sometimes my 13 year-old daughter, Ireland cooks dinner for me! I know one day she’ll be cooking up some wonderful memories for her family too! Do your kids help in the kitchen? Do you have any good tips or recipes to get them involved? If so please share! And, if you’d ever like me to come to you school, library, or business, I’d love to!
