Coffee & Buns!

I was in the Twin Cities doing some recipes on TV spots recently and was craving coffee and something sweet.

Yes, I love Starbucks but, when I have the time it’s so fun to get out there and explore. You know me, I’m always looking for that next great cup of jo. Those little funky hole in the hole the wall coffee houses are my favorite. If they have good pastries well, that’s even better!

So, I googled best coffee in the Twin Cities and this place caught me attention. As I mentioned I was craving not just a good cup of coffee but a sweet treat too. So, I hopped in the car and off I went to the cool Uptown area of Minneapolis to visit Isles Bun and Coffee.

Okay, I admit it, I was pretty excited about the “bun” part. Heads up, this place is really cute, but tiny. You know what they say, good things come in small packages! I was there on a weekday so I had no problem grabbing a table. I’m thinking on the weekends that’s pretty impossible!

Now, what to order.

Well, this was easy. I ordered a latte and I just had to have one of their famous made from scratch ooey, gooey cinnamon buns! They were ginormous! There was no way I was going to be able to tackle one of those on my own.

No problem. The guy at the counter suggested I get a puppy dog tail. SOLD! It’s the exact same recipe as the buns but they are much smaller and twisted so they are easier to eat too. They got their name from the nursery school kids next door. How cute!

I was handed my coffee and puppy dog tail and was told to help myself to extra frosting. What? Then, I spotted a big tub of delicious homemade cream cheese frosting. Are you serious! Sign me up! More frosting! I’m game. Okay, now I’m loving this place!

The coffee was really good! And, the bun was bun-believable! I stuck with the basic cinnamon roll. Those are my fave. If Bob would have been with me, I know he would have been all over the caramel pecan bun. He’s a nut guy. They make a non-nut caramel bun, cookies and a few other sweet treats too. It’s all good! Very good! Have you been?

I’ll be back in the Twin Cities doing some St. Paddy’s Day recipes on TV in a few weeks. I may just have to go back there. Or, if you know of another place I may enjoy, please share! Life is too short to drink bad coffee, don’t you think! I’ll go anywhere to find that next great cup!
