1 stick butter, at room temperature
3-4 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 to 3 tablespoons of milk
Place the butter in a large mixing bowl. Use a mixer and beat on low. Gradually add about 3 cups powdered sugar. Add vanilla and 1 tablespoon of milk. Beat on high until fluffy. Add a little more milk if frosting is too stiff. Add more powdered sugar if too thin. If using a piping bag to pipe on frosting, make sure frosting isn’t too stiff.
I use this frosting for my Death By Chocolate Cupcakes. To make chocolate buttercream frosting, use 3 cups powdered sugar and 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder along with the butter, vanilla, and a little milk. Add more powdered sugar if needed for desired consistency.
