  • 8 ounces cream cheese - at room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons butter - room temperature
  • 4 ounces brie or camembert cheese - cut in small cubes
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 /2 to 2 teaspoons sweet paprika
  • 1 tablespoon beer
  • 2 tablespoons green onions or chives
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced red onion

Instructions

  • Use a mixer to beat cream cheese and butter until well mixed.
  • Add in garlic salt and paprika and beer. Add enough paprika until cream cheese turns a light orange color.

  • Cover and refrigerate a few hours. Serve with sliced red onions and green onion on top. Great with warm soft pretzels and crackers for dipping.

Notes

This is a traditional German cheese dip served with pretzels and on meat and cheese boards at restaurants in Munich and Bavaria.   It’s so delicious! Sometimes I double this recipe.   I like to make this  ahead  and refrigerate at least a few hours before serving.  Keeps in the fridge for a few days.   This is a favorite on my culinary trips to Germany every year! I plan and host an annual Christmas market trip to Germany every December and a Danube River cruise trip that starts in Munich every year! Join me!
