Refrigerator Pickles

2 to 4 cups sugar (depends how sweet you want them)
4 cups vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons mustard seed
1/4 cup pickling salt
1 1/2 teaspoons celery seed
6 pounds sliced small pickling cucumbers
2 medium onions, sliced
2 to 3 fresh dill heads (optional)

Mix first 5 ingredients together until sugar dissolves. Pour over cucumbers, onion and dill if using. Do not heat! Place in clean jars with lid. Let refrigerate for two weeks before eating. Note: Even with 2 cups of sugar this still not a sweet pickle.
