Grandma’s Old Fashioned Apple Dumplings

Ingredients:
2 1/4 c brown sugar
2 1/4 c water
1 1/2 c dark karo syrup

3 c flour
3 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 heaping tsp shortening or butter

4-6 apples, sliced

Directions:
Boil first 3 ingredients in a 9×13 cake pan (or in separate pot if desired). Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and butter. Roll thin, cut into squares. Fill with sliced apples. Place seam side down in boiled syrup. Bake at 350 degrees, turning once until tops of dumplings are caramelized, usually 20 to 30 minutes.

  2. This recipe needs more info on quantity of apples. Is it 1 apple or 5 apples for the quantity of mix. Also boiling sugar syrup in cake pan I’m not sure my cake pans are designed to be heated on a stove can the syrup be made in apan and transferred to a warmed cake pan?
