Minnesota Hotdish

Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 1 hour 30 minutes
Servings 4

Ingredients

  • 1 pound hamburger
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup diced celery
  • 3-4 large potatoes diced small
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  • Brown hamburger in pan.
  • Stir in can of tomato soup. Add flour. Mix well.
  • Put hamburger mixture into a casserole dish and spread out on the bottom of the dish.
  • Put cream of mushroom soup on top of hamburger mixture and spread out.
  • Add the onion and celery on top of the soup.
  • Next, put the diced potatoes on top to cover.
  • Sprinkle with salt.
  • Pour milk on top.
  • Cover and bake for 1 1/2 hours at 350 degrees.

Notes

I always eye the amount of potato I put on. So the 3-4 for large potatoes isn’t and ecxact amount. You can add more or less to your liking. Also the milk just sits on top of the hot dish, dont stir it in. When it first comes out of oven it can be a little runny, after it cools a bit it thickens up. Tastes even better the next day.
~Enjoy~

  1. Hi Sandy. This isn’t one of my recipes. It comes from another “Cooking Mom” but, I definaytely think ground turkey or ground chicken would be great in place of the ground beef. As far as making this dairy free, try using soy milk or chicken stock and maybe another can of the tomato soup. Hope that helps! -Amy

  2. Any way of tweeking this without dairy and using chicken?
