Fun at the Farmers Market! Tweet 10th August 201310/08/13 Amy's Blog Amy Hanten 0 Comments I love to shop! What woman doesn’t? And, I’m all about a good deal! I think that’s why I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE going to the farmers market! You can go with 20 bucks and leave with a ton of stuff! HELLO! Gotta LOVE THAT! Plus, it’s full of surprises! You never know what’s going to be there. It’s kind of like a treasure hunt. And, this week I found lots of gems! I’m been enjoying a couple weeks at the cottage, in Harbor Springs, Michigan. Have you ever been? I was born up here and my family has been coming here for years. We just love it! Downtown Harbor is a such cute little place! Twice a week in the summer, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, they close down the street for a farmers market. After a coffee at my favorite little spot, (I’ll tell you more about that later) it’s time to get down to business. Here’s my plan. First, I take a stroll through the market. You know, see what everybody’s got. Then, I decide what I want and go back to get it. This week it was easy! I’ve been waiting all season for these babies. The first of the tomatoes in Northern Michigan are finally here. Better late than never, I always say. Because it’s been such a cool summer, it seems everything is a little later this year. Not only were there big beautiful tomatoes, but check out the basil too! Okay, that’s it! I know what I’m making for dinner tonight. We’ll start with my Best Ever Bruschetta on a the bread from the most amazing artisan bakery up here, again more on that place another time. Then, it’s on to a big beautiful Caprese Salad. It’s the easiest salad in the world to make but, in the summer when it’s tomato time, there’s nothing better! Finally, it’s time to make pesto. I like to make loads of my Lemon Basil Pesto. Then, I freeze it in little snack bags. That way we’ve got fresh pesto for months! Time to fire up the grill. My Pesto Salmon is so easy! It’s my daughter Ireland’s favorite. She loves salmon! My son, Riley is a burger nut! I like to give the all-American burger an Italian spin. My Caprese Burgers with fresh pesto sauce, tomatoes, and ooey gooey fresh mozzarella cheese are to die for! You seriously need to make them! Perfect served with my Parmesan Basil Pasta salad on the side. So, come on. What are you waiting for. Go to the farmers market and pick up some tomatoes and basil and cook up some memories. Can’t wait to see what treasures I’ll find this weekend! Check back and see!
