Riley’s Back Home

Riley’s Back Home

Riley’s Back HomeIt seems like we just moved him in. Wow. That flew by! He took his last final exam and turned in his last paper. My son, Riley is all done with his freshman year of college. We moved him out of the dorm and now he’s home for the summer. Hooray! It’s been really weird not having him around the house this year. We’ve missed his smile. We’ve missed his jokes. We’ve missed him at the dinner table. A table of 3 just felt strange when there had always been 4. But, I’m not sure if we’ve missed his laundry. Seems like he sure brought a lot of dirty clothes home. I’ve been doing loads of laundry all week! And, to be honest, the house and his room seems to be a little messier this week too. And, boy is it just me or can college kids sleep in? LOL!

I remember coming home my freshman year of college. It’s not easy. You really grow up that year away from home and get independent too. Then, you come home and you’re a little different. And, your mom and dad have all those rules, that you didn’t have at college, like putting your dishes in the dishwasher and making your bed. So, I’m not saying it’s going to be all roses this summer. These first few days have been interesting. He’s out pounding the pavement looking for a summer job this week. Sure hope he finds one soon! But, I am really glad my oldest is home for a few months. His sister, Ireland is over the moon! She’s got her big brother back! I plan on lots of family dinners, hopefully out on the deck. He says the food was pretty good at school, but not nearly as good as mine. He asked if I’d teach him how to make a few of his favorite meals this summer. Are you kidding? I can’t wait! We love you Riley and are really happy to have you home! Do you have a college kid home for the summer? Any advice? I’d love it! Please share!
