Making Chinese on TV on the Cheap!

Making Chinese on TV on the Cheap!

I love Chinese food! Maybe it’s the chopsticks! All those great flavors! It’s just fun! But, the last time my family went out for Chinese it was really expensive! Seriously! Like more than 75 bucks! Ouch! I’ve got a kid in college. We’re watching our pennies these days! Eating out can really add up! Well, you know that!

I was given the challenge of making an Oriental meal on the TV show Twin Cities Live this week. It had to feed 4 people and cost under 20 bucks! Could I do, it? Not a problem! That’s how I roll. I‘m not a chef, just a cooking mom. I get it! All my recipes are pretty cheap to make. I started with my Chinese Chicken Wings. These are a cinch to make and except for the wings you probably have most of the stuff right in your pantry! Sticky, ooey, gooey and delicious! Finger food too! Love that! These cost just over 7 bucks to make! Perfect for game day too!

To go with the wings, my Oriental Broccoli Slaw makes salad fun! Crunchy and delicious and under 4 bucks! I double the recipe and bring this to potlucks. People go crazy over it! “Who brought this?” and “I want the recipe!”. I just smile and tell them you bet! It’s in my new cookbook online. To round out the meal, both my kiddos love Fried Rice. You can make it at home for pennies! Next time you’re making white rice as side dish, make a few extra cups and turn it into fried rice the next day or later in the week. A little soy sauce, scrambled eggs, and leftover veggies and you’re in business! My Oriental dinner cost way less than 20 bucks! I made all three dishes for $13.49. Yep! You can do it too! I’m always looking for good, cheap recipes! Chinese, Mexican, you name! If you have any, please share! I’ll be back in the Twin Cities doing more fun, easy recipes next month. I may be on TV in your city soon too! So, please watch!
