Join The Cooking Mom on a Trip to Mackinac Island! Tweet 8th October 20208/10/20 Amy's Blog Amy Hanten 0 Comments Besides cooking, one of my favorite things to do is travel! Have you heard I’m hosting culinary vacations? Join me for what will be trips of a lifetime! I hosted my first trip in September 2019. A group of 35 of us went to Tuscany, Italy, for wine tasting, pasta making, dinner on a real Italian farm and so much more. I’m planning another trip back to Italy when it’s safe, hopefully in September 2022. I promise more details on that trip soon! If it’s safe in September 2021, join me for Oktoberfest in Munich and a River Cruise through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It’s going to be AMAZING! Click on my blog post Culinary Vacations with The Cooking Mom to read all about it and reserve your spot. Drum roll please! I’m SUPER excited to announce my next BIG trip! With everything going on, I know we’re all a little nervous about traveling. This trip is the perfect way to start! It’s not too far from home, just about 4 hours from Green Bay, Wisconsin. Plus, it’s something we can all look forward to! Join me in the summer of 2021 for 3 nights on beautiful Mackinac Island in Michigan! Click Trip to Mackinac Island for more details. I was lucky enough to spend a few days there in September. It felt very safe. People were masked up and the island is taking visitors’ safety very seriously! The whole trip was spectacular! I can’t stop dreaming of going back. So, I thought that’s it! It’s the perfect destination for one of my culinary vacations! Let’s go! Mackinac Island is magical! There are no cars on the island. It’s like you’ve stepped back in time. The island is filled with history, gorgeous scenery, and lots of delicious food and wine too. Not to mention the best fudge EVER! We’ll experience it all! One of the things that will make this trip extra special is our resort. We are staying at my favorite resort on the island! The Mission Point Resort is the very best! In fact it was voted one of the top resorts in the Midwest. I agree! It’s got it all. The grounds are spectacular. There are flowers everywhere! The resort overlooks nearly 20 acres of Lake Huron waterfront. I loved sitting on the Adirondack chairs on the massive lawn just relaxing and watching the giant freighters pass by. We even got to see a wedding! The main lodge has a massive log lobby filled with cozy fireplaces. It’s so charming! You’ll often see Nick, the resort’s doggie mascot, hanging out in the lobby. How cute is he? Had I known the resort was dog friendly I would have brought my black lab Arlo! Oh well, maybe next time! Pack a swimsuit because there are a big pool and two hot tubs. There’s a large movie theater where you can see the famous movie, Somewhere in Time, which was filmed on the island. There’s an 18-hole putting course, and no need to bring your clubs. You can use theirs. After exploring the island all day, you can unwind with a massage, facial or pedicure in their full spa! I loved our room! Many of the hotel rooms have been recently updated. They’re so fresh, clean and cute! One of the other things I really love about Mission Point is the food! There are several restaurants to choose from. Every meal we had was absolutely delicious! From fluffy pancakes and sausage for breakfast to this giant fish sandwich for lunch. For dinner my steak was one of the best I’ve ever had. One night we had to order their specialty, the fresh Michigan whitefish served with potatoes and asparagus. So yummy! A highlight of our trip was the 5-course wine dinner they offer at their fine dining restaurant, Chianti. The setting was so beautiful and romantic. The live piano player made it even more special. Each course was more gorgeous and delicious then the next! It was WONDERFUL! I hope you’ll join me for a few days you’ll never forget! It’s going to be a stress-free trip filled with magical memories! Pack your bags and come along. I forgot to mention we’ll be there when the lilacs bloom on the island! They are everywhere. It’s going to be just gorgeous! The trip is all set for June 8-11th, 2021. A super comfy motor coach will pick us up, making stops in Fond du Lac, Oshkosh, Appleton, Green Bay, and Marinette. Then, we’ll make the 4-hour drive to St. Ignace, stopping half way for homemade pasties in Escanaba. We’ll even learn how to make them. Then, in St. Ignace, we’ll take the ferry over to the island. We’ll check into The Mission Point and get settled. That night, we’ll all meet for cocktails. Then, we’ll sit down for a delicious gourmet dinner at the hotel. Dinner that night is included. Your breakfasts each morning will also be included. We’ll go behind the scenes of a local fudge shop, and we’ll even get to make and sample some. We’ll have the option of taking a carriage ride around the island, renting bikes and eating lunch at the Grand Buffet at the historic Grand Hotel. The 2nd night we’ll have the option of taking a sunset cruise! The Sip and Sail is a cocktail cruise with live music. We’ll cruise past the the Grand Hotel and beautiful island homes to watch the sunset. We even sail under the Mackinac Island bridge. Check out this view! We’ll have plenty of time to just relax on the island and at our resort. We can squeeze in some shopping too! We can only take a limited number of people.
