Dancing All the Way to State!

Dancing All the Way to State!

My daughter, Ireland (top row, fourth from the right) has been dancing for years now. In fact, I think she danced even before she walked! Tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, lyrical. You name it, she does it! And she LOVES it! A few years ago she decided to take things to the next level and join a travelling dance team. We’ve travelled all over the midwest for dance competitions. Twice, her team even made it to national competitions out east. So exciting! I have no idea where her dancing dreams came from. Not me, that’s for sure! I dance like Elaine on Seinfeld! Seriously! Maybe even worse! LOL!

This year Ireland decided to take a break from studio dancing. As a freshman at Notre Dame Academy in Green Bay, she tried out for the high school dance team and made it! She’s had a blast! They started practicing this summer and learning their routines. They danced their hearts out and really got the fans excited at the high school football games in the fall. Now, they are in the middle of the high school basketball season where they also perform at half-time and cheer for the team on the sidelines.

Sometimes I don’t know how she does it! Loads of homework plus practices everyday after school until late. Then, Friday nights are filled with games. And, now it’s
competition season for the team. We hit the road last weekend for the Wisconsin Regional Dance Competition in Wausau. They were going up agains a bunch of other high school teams from our region. I was kind of nervous. She is new to pom dancing and it’s quite different from the other types of dance she’s done over the years.

Well, guess what! They rocked it! They took 2nd place at regionals and this weekend she and the team will dance at the Wisconsin State High School Dance competition in La Crosse. GO NDA Tritons! Once again, I’ll be a nervous wreck. Check back next week and I’Ll let you know how they did!

So proud of Ireland and the rest of the team! Do you have a dancer in your family? Ever been to one of these competitions? If so, please share! I love hearing from other dance moms and dads!
