Christkindl Market

Christkindl Market

Sometimes you need to take a break from the mall and all those Christmas cards to really celebrate the season! The holidays always seems to go by so quickly so I’m always looking for new ways to soak it all in. I was booked to do some Christmas party recipes on TV in Chicago last weekend and Bob and the kids said they wanted to come too! Why not make a weekend of it! Chicago is always so festive during the holidays! We just love it! Ireland and I shopped ’til we dropped on Michigan Avenue while the boys, who aren’t much into shopping, watched the Ohio vs. Michigan game. We all went out to dinner to our favorite places and listened to lots of great live holiday music too!

Then, someone told us about the Christkindl Market which wasn’t too far from our hotel. It sounded wonderful! We just had to go! And I’m so glad we did! It’s a big outdoor German Christmas market in Daley Plaza between Washington, Clark, and Dearborn streets. Don’t worry, you’ll find it! You know you’re getting close when you smell the bratwursts grilling and the wonderful warm nuts roasting.

The big beautiful nativity scene greets you as you walk into the market.

My camera just couldn’t take enough pictures! It was like a step back in time. Like what Christmas is supposed to be! From beautiful hand-crafted Christmas ornaments, to cuckoo clocks, hand knitted sweaters and scarves and so much more.

Not to mention the wonderful German food! Schnitzel, potato pancakes, baked apples, and strudel! Are you getting hungry yet? All of it delish!

To warm you up there’s hot cocoa and German hot mulled wine served in a pretty souvenir mug which by the way, was delicious!

There was music, dancing, and a giant Christmas tree too! I think this is going to be an annual tradition! I can’t wait to go back next year! Have you ever been? What fun!
