Amy Goes Strawberry Picking! Tweet 25th June 202025/06/20 Amy's Blog Amy Hanten 0 Comments It’s time! Once again this year they took their good old time getting here in Wisconsin but, it’s finally strawberry time! Yippee! I know, I know you can get strawberries all year long at the grocery store but, come on there’s nothing like freshly picked berries! Picking them yourself is even better. I’ve been taking my kiddos strawberry picking ever since they could walk. Then, after picking we’d go home and turn those beauties into a special strawberry dessert. Here are Riley and Ireland at ages 8 and 4 looking berry, berry happy! My dad snapped this picture. He sadly passed away this week. Besides being a great dad and grandfather, he was an amazing photographer. My Dad’s Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream was legendary! His recipe is so simple and so delicious! I promise to blog about that another time. Dad liked it with fresh sliced strawberries on top. Oh Dad, I miss you! Thanks Dad for the wonderful pictures! We will treasure them and all the beautiful memories too! This year looks like I might be doing the strawberry picking all by my lonesome. My son Riley is working in Japan this summer. My daughter Ireland is also working. She’s in the Twin Cities. You know what, even without the kids along it will still be a bushel of fun! There’s a place outside of Green Bay called Moder’s Gardens. Pulling up to the farm, I am always like a kid going to a candy store! I get so excited! Besides those gorgeous bright red berries, what really makes me smile is seeing families out there picking together. LOVE THAT! I love seeing kids having a blast! Pick a few. Eat a few. That’s what my kids always did too! Do you blame them? I asked one family who had picked this whole giant box of berries what was their favorite thing to make with them. The answer – Fresh Strawberry Popsicles. What a great idea! They are so easy! Not to mention pretty much guilt free snacking. So perfect on a hot summer day! What a fun thing to make with the kids! This is what I mean about cooking up some summer memories. So, come on. Find a strawberry farm near you and get picking. The season will be gone before you know it! Or, at least head to the farmers market or local farm stand and pick up a quart or two. Need to bring dessert? Make my Strawberry Refrigerator Cake! It’s always a hit! From my shortcut Strawberry Shortcakes to my Strawberry Cheesecake Trifle and All American Berry Trifle and Cheesecake Stuffed Strawberries too! Why not throw some of those gorgeous strawberries in a big salad this summer! My Strawberry Spinach Salad with homemade poppy seed dressing is my summer go-to salad! I toss it up all summer long. Same goes for my Strawberry Fields Salad. If I’m going to a party I bring the dressing in a jar and toss it all up fresh right before dinner. People always ask me for the recipes. LOVE THAT! When it’s hot out, cool off with my Strawberry Smoothies, too. I have tons of fun strawberry recipes I think you’ll love! Just click on The Cooking Mom website. Type in strawberry where it says “recipe search” and you’ll find loads of them. Here’s hoping you have as much fun with strawberry season as I always do! Have you ever been strawberry picking? If so where do you like to go? What’s your favorite strawberry recipe? Please share! I love hearing from you!
