A Cherry Good Time!

A Cherry Good Time!

It’s time! The cherries are here! We live about an hour away from beautiful Door County, one of the top cherry producing regions in the country. Last year the crop wasn’t so good. Not this year!

The weather has been perfect and the trees are full of these gorgeous red gems. When we heard they were starting to pick, Ireland and I made a date!

We headed to the Lautenbach Orchard near Fish Creek, WI. You can let them do the picking for you if you want, but we love going out into the fields to pick our own. The day we went the weather was perfect! As you can see, we had a cherry good time! (Okay, kind of corny but I couldn’t help myself.)

A Cherry Good Time 5After picking we always head into the cherry store to cool off and sample all the fun cherry products. From jams and jellies, to cherry juice and salad dressings. Who knew there was so much cherry stuff? Gotta have a cherry turnover or a piece of cherry pie too!

A Cherry Good Time 4Of course we picked way to many! We always do. You too? Oh well, I guess that’s a good problem. When we got home we decided to get busy. Ireland and I went a little cherry crazy and cooked up some seriously fun cherry memories! From my Cherry Salsa which is great on grilled pork or chicken, to my Chocolate Cherry Cupcakes, Oatmeal Cherry Cookies, Mini Cherry Cheesecakes and Ireland’s favorite my Cherry Almond French Toast. Bob loves my Sausage and Cherry Stuffed Mushrooms! He’s a mushroom guy!

Instead of serving lemonade, why not “WOW” everybody with my Cherry Lemonade this summer! It’s so easy to make and so good! Chicken on the grill can get a little boring. My Grilled Balsamic Chicken with Cherry Sauce is anything but! Looks so fancy but, it’s super simple. And, why not get some Christmas gifts out of the way right now! Make Cherry Bounce! Cherries marinated in brandy and sugar. If you make a few dozen jars now, they’ll be all ready to give as gifts during the holidays. I still have a bunch of cherries left to use in my fridge so if you have any good cherry recipes, please share! I think I’ll have to make my Door County Cherry Chicken Salad Sandwiches this weekend and dream of going back to Door County some time soon!
