I made these as a really quick and easy appetizer for a potluck at work. I just put everything in my Crock Pot in the morning, brought it to work, plugged it in, and they were ready by the time we were ready to party! A few things: “Normal” sized mushrooms can be pretty big…I would cut them in half. I didn’t use enough Ranch seasoning for my tastes. If you like really flavorful food, add more Ranch (or your own spices and seasonings!). With the leftovers, I put the crock in the fridge, and, once the butter hardened on the top, I got rid of most of it. Added some freezer burned steak that had gotten buried in the freezer, carrots and potatoes, and some other spices and herbs, and some chicken broth and let it cook on low in the slow cooker for about 11 hours. It made a reeeeally good beef stew 🙂

The mushrooms were a hit !! They’re great ! I used baby portobellos.

I had two 24 oz pkgs of baby portobello mushrooms (from Sam’s Club) so I decided to stem them and cut in half. I also did a whole onion, 3 packets ranch mix and 3 sticks butter. They were fabulous! All my dinner guests thought they were excellent! I think I could of done 2 sticks butter though. I probably will try it again with white button mushrooms, but the portobello ones were so good!!

  8. This is a great recipe! I sprinkled some mozzarella and parm over the finished product. Family couldnt get enough!

Sounds interesting but how big are the packages if mushrooms, and how large the onions?? What do you serve it with? crackers? toasted bread squares??

    1. Hi Audrey. I’ve emailed the gal who sent in the recipe. With all that butter I’d do two 16 ounce pkgs. button mushrooms and maybe half a of a small sliced onion. These are meant to be an appetizer all my themselves. Just use toothpicks and dig in. Also great over steaks! Yum! -Amy
