My Little Gardener

She’s always wanted to do it, so this summer she did! My daughter, Ireland is growing tomatoes and a bunch of herbs too! You know me, I love to cook but, when it comes to gardening, I’m not very good at it! I’ve tried a few things over the years but then I decided that’s what farmers markets are for. Well, looks like I won’t need to be buying tomatoes at the farmers market this year. Ireland harvested her first tomatoes this week. She and my husband Bob carefully planted the tomato plants in big clay pots back in June. One pot of heirloom yellow tomatoes, and another of big red beefsteak tomatoes, my FAVE! Every day she goes out to check on them and runs in with an update. No yellow tomatoes yet, but I’ll keep you posted.

Finally, this week, it was time! A couple were ready to pick! They were big, red, and beautiful! She was so excited about it! I was so proud! So, what did we do with Ireland’s first tomatoes? Ate them for dinner! We made the most delicious salad with them. We used fresh basil and mozzarella cheese. It was just wonderful and what fun it’s been! Click here for the recipe.
