I dream about this place and every summer my dreams come true! They claim they make “The Best Chicken in the World” and I agree! It’s served family style with all the fixin’s and trust me, these aren’t your ordinary fixin’s! Dinner starts out with a 9 item relish tray. LOVE it! Not many places do this anymore! They should! Cool stuff on that relish tray too, like pickled watermelon rinds (my grandfather’s FAVE!), corn relish, cranberry relish, peaches, olives and the best pickles! Then comes the warm biscuits with butter and honey. Homemade of course! Next comes the salad, either homemade coleslaw, which is delish or a tossed salad. They make homemade ranch dressing so sometimes I have a tough time choosing. You know me. I’m a sucker for homemade salad dressing of any kind.
Okay, now we’re ready for a serious feast! Out comes a pile of pan fried (yep, pan fried, not deep fried) plump, golden, juicy, and seriously to die for fried chicken. Along with it comes oodles of noodles! They are homemade hot egg noodles that are crazy good! Besides the chicken this is why I keep coming back! But, save room! Real mashed potatoes with lumps and the best and greenest (is that a word?) buttered peas I’ve ever seen! Gotta have good gravy and lots of it and of course they do! Is your mouth watering! Well, mine is! And, it’s family style and all you can eat. Just ask and they’ll bring more of EVERYTHING! I was lucky enough to eat here once this Summer. Sure hope I get back there at least once more!
So, where is this place, you ask? It’s in a little town called Pellston, Michigan, not far from our Summer cottage in Harbor Springs. I’ve been going to the Dam Site Inn ever since I was a little girl. You see, there’s an airport in Pellston. It worked out perfectly! Whenever anyone was flying in to visit, we’d pick them up and have dinner at the Dam Site. Still do! It’s such a pretty restaurant too! Big windows and a great view! Lots of bunnies, birds and flowers to enjoy. The Dam Site has been around for more than 50 years and I sure hope it’s around for another 50 or more! Like my grandparents took me, I can’t wait to take my grandkids there one day! Have you ever been here? If, not do you know of a place like this? I’ll go anywhere for a great family-style chicken dinner?

I was explaining the decor and the food, and decided to Google it, and thats how I found your site. The picture of the food is making me drool.. This place is truly one-of-a-kind, beautiful! I always buy a new wine glass or martini glass, etc from Pam. DELICIOUS!! I get to go only once per year, as we live in Cincinnati, hoping to continue that tradition for years and years!
