Cooking Up Some Easter Memories

Easter Deviled EggsEaster is such a special holiday. This Easter was extra special! The weather in Wisconsin was just about perfect. Church was lovely and we even got seats, which is sometimes tough on Easter! Bob, Levi, the dog, and I took a wonderful walk, and the best part, we cooked up some memories that almost brought me to tears. Good ones!

When trying to figure out what to sign, besides my name, in my cookbook, I just couldn’t think of the perfect thing. Paula Dean signs, “Best Dishes”, Tyler Florence signs “Keep on Cooking”. I wanted to say something that really meant something to me, and summed up what I’m all about. Then it came to me! It was in the middle of the night before my very first book signing. That’s it! “Cook Up Some Memories!” That’s what I sign in most every book, unless folks ask me to sign it differently. To me cooking isn’t just about making food. It’s making the memories that go along with it.

This Easter my daughter Ireland, “The Cooking Kid”, wanted to help with every part of the Easter dinner. Making the deviled eggs together is something I’ll never forget! Deviled eggs on Easter is a tradition in our house! I used to help my grandmother, and great-grandmother make them. Both ladies are no longer with us but you can bet they were smiling down on our kitchen this Easter. It was Ireland’s first time ever making deviled eggs. We made our classic, simple recipe and it was her idea to add a little ranch dressing. Guess what! Good idea, Ireland! They turned our delicious! I think the best I’ve ever tasted! How was your Holiday? Did you cook up some memories? I sure hope so!
