Me and Mr. Chocolate

If you could have just one food, what would it be? For me this is a no brainer! It would have to be chocolate! Yep, I’m a serious chocoholic! I don’t think a day goes by when I don’t have a little. That’s why I was so excited to hang out with one of the most famous chocolate guys in the world, Jacques Torres. He calls himself “Mr. Chocolate”.
He’s the guy you see on Food Network making all that cool stuff with chocolate.

I have to admit, I’m feeling a little guilty. While Bob’s at home on “kid duty”, I’m at the American Club in Kohler, Wisconsin for the big Food and Wine Experience. Talk about a fun weekend! I get to help introduce celebrity chefs and wine experts. It’s just so cool! Chefs from around the world come to Kohler to teach cooking and wine classes.

Jacques taught us how to dip the bottoms of ballons in melted dark chocolate and then put them in the fridge for a bit to harden. Pop the balloons and you have these gorgeous chocolate cups. Fill them with chocolate mousse and top with fresh berries and you have one amazing dessert! The Cooking Mom can’t wait to try this at home! Talk about looking like a rock star! Okay, so back to the question, what is the one food you can’t live without?

It was a longtime wish of mine to attend FCI (French Culinary Institute) in Manhattan, NY, because that was where Chef Torres was Dean of Pastry. Alas, it was not to be and I chose another Top Ten Culinary School, LAC, outside Washington, DC. My husband and I visited his first shop on Water Street, in Brooklyn, NY, November 29, 2011 and the chocolates we purchased were wonderful. I have such a soft spot in my heart for this Chocolatier, and I am so pleased you got to meet him in person.

    1. I can’t wait to visit his shop in person too, Theresa! Thanks for sharing!

I food I can’t live without? Definitely M&M’s, I always manage to have a bag or two around the house (and they’re hidden, too!)
